Buc-ee’s is bringing its beaver nuggets and supersized convenience experience to the Buckeye state.

Mayor Jeff Gore said in an announcement on Facebook, “The rumors you have heard are TRUE! The very first BUC-EE’S in the state of Ohio is coming to Huber Heights.”

The mayor added that representatives of Buc-ee’s will be at a planning commission meeting August 15.

The Texas-based convenience and fuel retailer has about 50 locations, mostly in the south in states like Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia.

The popularity of the c-store and its beaver mascot led to an intersection of science and pop culture. University of Texas researchers announced they had identified a new ancient species of beaver and are calling it Anchitheriomys buceei, or A. buceei for short, according to an article on texasmonthly.com.

The fossil was rediscovered after sitting in a museum filing cabinet for about 80 years.

Research associate Steve May and vertebrate paleontology collections director Matthew Brown made the discovery and published a paper on the Miocene-era rodent fossil, as noted in Texas Monthly. May had the idea to pay homage to the Lone Star State’s iconic mascot: “He was inspired by one of the countless ‘beaver country’ billboards that pepper our state’s highways. ‘I thought, you know, most Texans don’t realize what a long history of beavers we have in Texas in terms of the whole paleontological record. This would be really interesting to acknowledge.’”

In other Buc-ee’s news, NACS Daily recently reported on a third-party Buc-ee’s online merchandise store re-selling Buc-ee’s products.
