ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Many industry leaders got their start at the store level and followed their career path into senior leadership positions. For nearly 30 years, the NACS Foundation Future Fund has been a valuable resource for helping these individuals expand their knowledge and skillsets through higher education.

The Future Fund’s marque program, the NACS Foundation Scholarship, recognizes and supports convenience store employees who demonstrate the potential and the determination to someday hold positions of senior leadership in the industry. Since inception, the program has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to NACS retail members.

The application process is underway for the 2022–23 NACS Foundation Scholarship. Now through June 20, you can help recognize a rising leader within your company.

Each year, the NACS Foundation distributes up to 11 scholarships toward undergraduate career education at a community college or university. Selected applicants are awarded $3,000 each for costs of undergraduate or college education. They will also receive a stipend to attend the 2022 NACS Show in Las Vegas on October 1-4, where they are recognized during a special ceremony and experience our industry in action at its must-attend event.

The program’s commitment to recognizing and developing future leaders honors the memory of industry icon Jim Yates, founder of E-Z Mart Stores and former NACS chairman from 1992–93. In 2011, a donation from Altria expanded the program to include honoring the memory of David Erickson, former CEO of Erickson Oil Products.

Since its creation, the NACS Scholarship Program has awarded more than half a million dollars in scholarships to employees of NACS retail member companies who demonstrate leadership potential.
