CHICAGO—Amazon has opened its first non-food, brick-and-mortar store in the United Kingdom, reports BBC. The store in Kent is the first Amazon 4-star store location outside the U.S., and it sells the hottest products that Amazon customers are buying that are rated four stars and above, are top sellers, or new and trending on amazon.com.
Products include devices, consumer electronics, toys, games, books, kitchen, home and among others. There’s also a “Most Wished For” section of customers products from customers' wish lists. Amazon is able to keep the prices of the items comparable to what they are selling for online through digital price tags, and customers don’t have to have an Amazon account to shop.
“There are the Amazon products they will expect but also local products from small suppliers because that is a huge part of the Amazon business,” said Andy Jones, director of Amazon 4-star U.K.
Recently, Amazon announced it is opening two Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. equipped with Just Walk Out technology, which allows customers to bypass the self-checkout line and walk out of the store with their products.
