WAWA, Pa.—Wawa unveiled its 50th electric-vehicle charging site when it opened a new convenience store in Crystal River, Florida, the chain reports.
This is the first Florida site to open with EV charging facilities; however, EV chargers have been added to some existing locations in the Sunshine State. In 2017, Wawa began offering EV charging. Now, the chain has 47 locations with Tesla Superchargers and three locations hosting CCS and CHAdeMO EV chargers, with the chain expecting to celebrate more than one million EV charging sessions by the end of the month.
The EV charge service is part of Wawa’s efforts to provide “boundless convenience” to customers, according to Brian Schaller, chief real-estate and fuel officer, Wawa. “Our continued growth demonstrates our commitment to innovation, sustainability and our continued desire to meet the needs of our customers.”
Last summer, Wawa opened its first EV-charging-only location in Vienna, Virginia.
The need for EV charging around the nation has been accelerating, and retailers have been adding EV infrastructure to their facilities. Read more about those additions in “Charging Back” in NACS Magazine.
