ROCKVILLE, Md.—OPIS, an IHS Markit company, is gearing up for a brand new virtual event where global fuel supply chain industry experts and colleagues gather to discuss and exchange perspectives to help them make informed business decisions. Slated for February 8-11, the OPIS Fuel Price and Profitability Outlook virtual event will feature industry thought leaders who will analyze the challenges of 2020 and offer a detailed analysis and global outlook for 2021 and beyond.

The forum will address key drivers and trends that impact fuel supply, consumption, pricing and profitability, including:

  • Global factors that are radically changing traditional supply and demand metrics inside the U.S.
  • The impact of alternative fuels and electric vehicles on the retail fuel industry.
  • Potential shifts in energy and tax policies following the 2020 U.S. election.
  • Changing valuations for assets, including refining and retail.
  • Retail fuel margins, demand and consumer sentiment.
  • The geopolitical landscape and country risk for energy in 2021 and beyond.

Here’s a look at some of the featured speakers.

On Monday, February 8, Walter Zimmerman, vice president and chief technical strategist, ICAP, will walk through the current price trends and what the price action is telling us. While many analysts will make price predictions based on the fundamentals, Zimmerman relies on historical price data and wave theory to determine where prices may be going next.

Join Sara Johnson, executive director—Global Economics, IHS Markit, in the Tuesday, February 9, session “Beyond the Pandemic: Prospects and Challenges for the Global Economy” as she outlines expected recovery timelines across sectors and regions of the world and price outlooks that will reflect the cross-currents of resurgent industrial materials costs, slack labor markets and excess supply in some markets.

John Eichberger, executive director, the Fuels Institute, headlines the session, “EVs and the Growing Electrification Trend,” on Thursday, February 11. Eichberger studies the numbers and the trends in liquid fuels as well as electrification of the fleet and will provide a deep understanding of what’s next and why.
