KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—On Tuesday, April 27, Pilot Company will host its annual National Hiring Day event virtually, to fill more than 5,000 positions across the company.

The influx of positions, which will be filled via virtual interviews, spans across retail, foodservice, facility services, professional driving and corporate roles. Openings are available across the U.S. and Canada at more than 800 Pilot Flying J Travel Centers and One9 Fuel Network stores, in several states for company and independent contract drivers and at the corporate offices in Knoxville, Tennessee; Houston and Dallas in Texas and Denver, Colorado.

Pilot isn’t the only convenience retailer adding workers during a spring hiring blitz. On March 31, Sheetz filled more than 2,800 company-wide positions during its hiring day.

Other retail channels also are seeking new hires. Walmart announced plans to convert many of its part-time store positions in the U.S. to full-time jobs, Chain Store Age reports. The retailer anticipates two-thirds of its hourly store positions will transfer to full time with the same weekly schedules by the end of January 2022.

Dollar General is hosting a five-day hiring initiative April 19 to 23 to add 20,000 new workers, according to Chain Store Age. The virtual and in-person hiring events will interview candidates for store, transportation, corporate and distribution positions.

At the recent NACS HR Forum, speakers discussed the importance of building inclusive workspaces to attract new talent and as well as some of the best practices for hiring in 2021.
