JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Wawa just opened its 8th store location in Jacksonville, Florida—and the company is looking to expand to another 17 stores in the First Coast area, reports the Jacksonville Business Journal.

The First Coast, located on the Atlantic coast of North Florida, might see as many as two to three new Wawa locations each year. There may even be 25-30 locations in the greater Jacksonville area alone.

“We have about another 10 sites under contract,” says Brian Duke, Wawa’s regional real estate manager. “We still have a few years to complete that buildout. It’s all very fluid, and we don’t have a particular deadline.”

But that’s not all: Wawa is expected to open 60 more locations across six states. The typical buildout for a store is about 5,500 to 6,100 square feet and requires an investment of about $6 million.

While physical store expansion is a priority, so is an expansion on Wawa’s food offerings. “Our background has always been in the dairy and food business, so we’re better at it than our competition,” Duke said.

Wawa has more than 800 stores, 560 of which offer gasoline, and employs 35,000 people across six states. Its first Jacksonville store opened in 2017.
