ALEXANDRIA, Va.—If ever we’ve needed heroes, it’s been in 2020. Heroes “have always been there, but now in the midst of the COVID-19 season we’re in, it’s at the forefront,” said Kevin Brown, motivational storyteller, on this week’s episode of Convenience Matters, “A Time for Heroes.”
“It’s really been a timeless message, but it’s really become timely right now, because if the world has ever needed heroes, the time is now,” he said. “The challenge is convincing people there’s a hero that exists in them. It’s easy to spot the ones around us, especially now, but it’s harder to discover the one within us, and bring the best version of ourselves to this moment and pour it into the people around us.”
Sometimes, people think to be a hero is to do huge, newsworthy things. “The truth is that we can be a hero in any point in our lives, in any point in our day to the people we live with, to the people we work with, to the customers who walk into our stores, to our co-workers,” Brown said. “We can be heroes by small acts, and sometimes those small acts make big differences in people’s lives.”
Brown recommended asking “the most powerful question you can ever ask—What can I do with what I have to create a better outcome for people?” He encouraged retailers to answer that question in the context of their employees and customers. “How can I make life better for the people I serve?” he said.
