CINCINNATI—EG America, the United Kingdom-based company that recently purchased the Cumberland Farms convenience chain, will close its downtown Cincinnati headquarters and lay off 200 workers by Dec. 31, reports the Cincinnati Business Journal. EG Group intends to relocate to Massachusetts, the home of Cumberland Farms.
A subsidiary of England’s EG Group, EG America will move to Westborough, Massachusetts, effective Jan. 1, 2020. The company entered the U.S. market in April 2018 when it acquired Kroger's 762 convenience stores for $2.15 billion. EG Group closed its acquisition of Cumberland Farms in October.
Since that acquisition, EG America has continued to expand its U.S. presence, purchasing 224 Minit Mart stores and growing its reach to 1,680 c-stores in 31 states.
