MACON, Ga.—Yesterday, Buc-ee’s, the giant travel center chain based in Lake Jackson, Texas, broke ground for its first location in the state of Georgia, according to WideOpenEats.com.

The new store in Warner Robins, just south of Macon, is set to open in early 2021. According to the press release, the convenience store chain selected that location because it’s between Atlanta and Florida and close to Robins Air Force Base. The 53,000-square-foot travel center will feature 116 fueling positions, thousands of food options and clean restrooms, all of which have earned the chain a reputation as a great place to stop on a road trip.

"We're excited to break ground in Warner Robins and provide people with a world-class option for their travel needs along the highway,” said Jeff Nadalo, general counsel at Buc-ee's. “Warner Robins is one of the fastest-growing cities in Georgia, and we are hoping to support the military community nearby Robins Air Force Base by providing quality jobs with great pay, full benefits, 401k and three weeks of vacation.”

The store will host job fairs when the opening date gets closer. Plans call for hiring more than 200 local employees.

Yesterday’s groundbreaking follows two other recent groundbreakings for out-of-state stores, including one in Daytona Beach, Florida, and another near Mobile, Alabama.
