ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Sheetz, the Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain, is selling a wide range of CBD products at more than 140 stores across the state, according to Inquirer.com.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound derived from hemp that was federally legalized late last year. Unlike its cannabis cousin THC, CBD is nonintoxicating. In large quantities, CBD is used as a medicine to treat seizures brought on by rare forms of childhood epilepsy. While there are claims that CBD cures everything from headaches to cancer, there is no scientific evidence to back up those statements.
“The launch of a CBD line is to simply meet growing demand and continue to be the ultimate one-stop-shop for our customers,” said Ryan Sheetz, vice president of brand strategies for the chain.
Sheetz is stocking products from Select CBD, Floyd’s of Leadville, Eco Sciences, Forth and Cannadips, all of which are domestically produced and tested in FDA approved facilities. The products will include topical rubs and patches, tinctures, vape pens, oral pouches, capsules and pet products, with prices ranging from $4.99 to $59.99. In a statement, Sheetz said all products will be kept behind the counter. Customers must be older than age 18 to make a purchase.
Meanwhile, Ben & Jerry’s, maker of popular convenience-store treats, has announced it will add CBD to its ice cream products as soon as CBD is legal in all 50 states, reports Delish.com.
“We’re doing this for our fans,” said Matthew McCarthy, CEO, Ben & Jerry’s. “We’ve listened and brought them everything from non-dairy indulgences to on-the-go portions with our pint slices. We aspire to love our fans more than they love us, and we want to give them what they’re looking for in a fun, Ben & Jerry’s way.”
Between flavors like Half Baked and Magic Brownies and the company’s tendency to speak out on social and political issues, it would be more surprising if the company didn’t join the CBD conversation.
