ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The deadline for NACS Scholarship nominations has been extended until Monday, June 10 to allow retailers more time to nominate potential rising star employees seeking a career in convenience retailing.
Many of today’s convenience industry leaders started their work lives at the store level, and with education, experience and mentoring, they advanced to positions of senior leadership. The NACS Foundation’s Scholarship Program makes it possible for current leaders to help support this journey for future retail stars.
Founded in 1991, the NACS Scholarship Program honors industry icons Jim Yates, founder of E-Z Mart Stores and former NACS chairman, and David Erickson, former CEO of Erickson Oil Products, by helping retail members recognize, reward and develop top talent within their companies.
Each year, the NACS Foundation distributes up to 11 educational scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to select applicants. The scholarship helps fund tuition costs toward undergraduate career education, community college or university. The 2019 scholarship recipients also will receive a stipend to attend this year’s NACS Show in Atlanta, where they will be recognized during a special evening ceremony and given a firsthand opportunity to learn more about the industry.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be current full- or part-time employees of a NACS retail member company, must also be enrolled for the fall 2019 semester at any accredited two- or four-year college, university or technical institution, and continue to be enrolled for the entire academic school year (2019-20). Companies may nominate multiple applicants for scholarships.
The deadline to submit applications is Monday, June 10. Winners will be notified on or before July 9. Read more about the NACS Foundation’s Scholarship Program and download an application.
