GREENSBORO, N.C. – ITG Brands donated $25,000 to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund, providing much-needed funds for food, gas, water, building materials and other supplies to residents affected by Hurricane Florence. “We’ve been touched by the devastation, loss of life and disruption here in our own state,” said Dan Carr, ITG Brands’ president and CEO, in a press release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors throughout the state and for all who have been impacted by this devastating storm.”
In accepting the $25,000 check for the fund, Kevin Monroe, North Carolina’s deputy director for intergovernmental affairs, relayed a message from Gov. Roy Cooper: “Communities hit hard by Hurricane Florence need our help now more than ever—and when it comes to recovery, we’re all in this together. … Donating to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund can help provide people the support they need to rebuild their lives.”
Earlier this week, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said it had received approval to automatically replace 60% of the September 2018 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit for households in the counties of Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Harnett, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Robeson and Sampson. On Wednesday, the state added Hoke, Hyde, Lee, Moore, Richmond and Scotland counties to the list for automatic replacement.
Some households in these counties will also receive a supplemental benefit. The supplemental benefit is the difference between the household’s September benefit and the maximum benefit for the household size. Supplements are issued to current SNAP households to align benefits with non-SNAP households when the state benefits from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Disaster SNAP program. The same counties approved for replacements will receive the automatic supplements.
