NEW YORK – At a new Amazon store in New York City, the online retailer is selling only items that received a ranking of four stars or higher online, the Wall Street Journal reports. Amazon 4-star opened last week to the public and features a variety of goods.
“We started with some of the most popular categories on Amazon.com, including devices, consumer electronics, kitchen, home, toys, books and games, and chose only the products that customers have rated four stars and above, are top sellers, or are new and trending,” the company said.
Amazon 4-star is more like Amazon Books than Amazon Go. Amazon Books uses detailed local information to stock the area’s online best-sellers, and shoppers can double-check online prices of books with a scanner or phone app. Amazon 4-star also will give Prime members the same price in-store as online, while nonmembers are charged the list price. Digital tags will show both prices, along with the product’s star rating and number of reviews.
Amazon 4-star also has the “Most-Wished-For” products imported from its online customer wish lists, plus the products most purchased by New York residents. Naturally, the store stocks Amazon devices to allow shoppers a chance to test and purchase in-store.
Amazon 4-star is the latest in the online retailer’s growing stable of physical locations, which now include 12-plus bookstores, a few Amazon Go stores and Whole Foods.
