PHILADELPHIA – Wawa aficionados have long touted its hoagies as the best in the business, and now a Market Force Information confirms it in their annual quick service restaurant survey, Food & Wine reports. The survey found that Wawa moved up four slots to claim the top spot in the sandwich category. Wawa beat out Firehouse Subs (last year’s number one chain), Jersey Mike’s, Jimmy John’s, Jason’s Deli and McAlister’s Deli, all in the top six.
In the burger category, In-N-Out once more nabbed the number one spot for the second year in a row. Coming in second and third, respectively, are Culver’s and Five Guys. McDonald’s came in last of the 13 burger chains listed in the ranking. Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A came out as the number-one chicken chain for the fourth consecutive year. Raising Cane’s came in second, while El Pollo Loco and Zaxby’s tied for third place.
Despite the rockiness of its past year, Chipotle hung onto the number one slot in Mexican food, narrowly beating out the competition. In the pizza category, Pizza Ranch came in first, knocking down Papa Murphy’s, Marco’s Pizza, Domino’s and Papa John’s.
Market Force also noted that mobile ordering has become increasingly popular, “with 39% reporting that they ordered their meals via smartphone app in the past 90 days, a significant increase from 2015 when just 11% reported doing so.”
