Yum! Brands has entered an agreement to sell its Pizza Hut restaurant chain, the company announced this week.
The Pizza Hut brand (excluding its mainland China locations) is set to be acquired by private-equity firm LongRange Capital for about $1.5 billion, Yum said. While Yum China Holdings will acquire mainland China locations for about $1.2 billion.
Yum CEO Chris Turner said that deals help the company, which also owns QSRs Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill, to be more focused. A comprehensive review of strategic options for Pizza Hut began in November.
“Under LongRange and Yum China, Pizza Hut will be well positioned for future growth with ownership that brings deep expertise in the restaurant industry,” Turner said in the release.
Meanwhile at Yum’s KFC chain, the company is putting boneless chicken at the center of its next chapter.
Yum revealed a menu revamp this week that includes new chicken tenders and sauces. The company said that different markets will be able to tailor their sauce lineup to local tastes with options such as Chimichurri Ranch and Hot Honey Habanero, according to a news release.
KFC previously launched the Gen Z-focused Saucy! restaurant concept in Orlando in 2024, featuring 11 new dips, chicken tenders and sauces.
New tenders and sauces are expected to roll out in the U.K. and Ireland in the coming weeks, with the rollout expanding in the U.S. and Australia also in the “coming weeks,” a news release said.
A beverage platform dubbed Kwench by KFC is also expanding to Australia and Canada this year. The drinks are already available in certain restaurants in the U.K. and Ireland, and include boba refreshers, "krunch shakes," sparkling lemonades and iced coffees.
“In an increasingly crowded category, we have a clear opportunity to set the standard for modern chicken in QSR,” said KFC Global CEO Scott Mezvinsky in the release. “This next chapter brings new energy and expression to what makes us iconic, while doubling down on our chicken and reimagining how fans experience KFC around the world.”
KFC will also open “new generation” restaurants, including an open-concept design in McKinney, Texas, and a two-story “fully immersive” restaurant in Dubai, according to the release.
