It has been a great start to the year for the convenience industry in the fight for swipe fee reform. President Trump announced his support for the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA) in January, and the bipartisan legislation was reintroduced shortly after. The CCCA would bring competition to the credit card marketplace, requiring credit card companies to compete on both fees and services rather than placing higher credit card swipe fees on Main Street and its customers.
Convenience retailers across the country are fired up, and so far this year the industry has generated more than 10,000 letters to members of Congress urging them to support the legislation. It is now more crucial than ever to join our industry and coalition partners in advocacy efforts to advance the CCCA.
One way you can help support the passage of CCCA is through company-wide participation. Nearly 2.75 million employees operate this industry every day, but many may be unfamiliar with the impact swipe fees have on our businesses.
NACS can help you build call-to-action campaigns dedicated to educating your team members on the issue and prompting them to write to their legislators on Capitol Hill. In 2025 alone, company-wide efforts resulted in over 10,000 letters sent to members of Congress. This year, NACS is seeing continued engagement from c-store team members as momentum grows.
Customer participation in advocacy efforts is also key to advancing the CCCA. Not only do hidden fees affect our businesses—they drive up the cost of everyday goods and services in America. The average American family unknowingly pays nearly $1,200 in credit card swipe fees per year. NACS, in collaboration with Rovertown, can help you create a call-to-action campaign via a tile on your customer loyalty app, where customers are easily able to act in support of swipe fee reform. Through this digital outreach, c-store customers generated over 21,000 letters in support for the CCCA last year.
These tools offer the ability to maximize our industry’s voice by providing team members and customers with the opportunity to act through a quick and easy process.
NACS’ call-to-action campaigns direct participants to a page that quickly summarizes the CCCA and immediately generates letters to legislators. These initiatives educate our communities and help them use their voice to send a powerful message to their representatives in Congress.
With the Administration’s endorsement of the CCCA and a wide net of bipartisan support, lawmakers in Washington are closely watching movement on swipe fee reform. This moment calls for collective action to fight for a more competitive market that is fair to our businesses and our customers.

Swipe fee reform will be a focus of NACS Day on the Hill, March 17-18 in Washington, DC, in which NACS retailer—and supplier—members get in-depth knowledge of critical industry issues and then meet with their elected leaders. NACS provides the resources, builds out teams and schedules the meetings to ensure that Hill visits are productive for first-timers and regular attendees alike. Click here to learn more.
