An election year provides a unique opportunity to educate current members of Congress who wish to continue representing you in Washington, D.C. As legislators build on their campaigns and policy agendas for their next terms, they are listening closely to their constituents’ priorities. While it is an intense time for candidates seeking reelection, this is a pivotal time for the convenience industry to influence the legislators. Consider joining your industry colleagues to make your voice heard during NACS Day on the Hill this year, March 17-18.
Our industry’s stories are especially powerful during an election year when legislators are looking to amplify important issues and as they begin to shape their policy plans for a new congress. Putting a face and story to policies will allow lawmakers to have personal connections to issues that they might otherwise overlook. At NACS Day on the Hill, you will have a seat at the table where you can personally share your story with members of Congress, and ensure lawmakers are prioritizing the convenience industry as they prepare for their reelection campaigns.
The NACS government relations team prepares participants with resources and guidance ahead of their arrival to Washington, D.C. for Day on the Hill. Attendees are invited to virtual presentations and provided with materials on issues that will be discussed during their meetings on Capitol Hill.
NACS also hosts an in-person General Session the day before Hill meetings, where participants gain a deeper insight into priority issues and receive an overview of the current legislative and political landscape. NACS schedules all meetings with legislators and their staff and places attendees into teams for their meetings. Each group is led by an experienced advocate with a deep understanding of the issues and who knows how to navigate Capitol Hill.
Last year, Paige Fickler-Cleveland, general manager at Fickler Oil Company and member of the NACS Retail Engagement Committee, attended NACS Day on the Hill for the first time. “It’s difficult for lawmakers, or anyone for that matter, to understand how their decisions may be impacting you until you give them the opportunity to empathize with your situation,” she said. Learn more about her experience in the article “Advocacy in Action: A Day on the Hill,” from the February 2026 issue of NACS Magazine.
By participating at Day on the Hill, you can help shape legislation at a time when lawmakers have the time to listen and take action for the communities that they represent. Make your voice heard this election year at NACS Day on the Hill.
