The company said it intends to reshape its portfolio to focus downstream.

BP plans to sell its mobility and convenience business in Austria, the company announced this week. The process will begin immediately, and the company seeks to complete the sale by the end of 2025.

The sale will include over 260 BP retail sites across Austria (about 120 of which are company owned), its associated Austrian fleet business, EV charging assets including those under development and BP’s shares in the company operating the Linz fuel terminal non-operated joint venture (NOJV).

“Over recent years we have grown the business to become the number two major branded retailer in the market. As BP now looks to focus downstream and reshape our portfolio, we believe that a new owner will be best placed to unlock the business’s full potential,” said Emma Delaney, EVP, customers & products at BP. “We have a high-quality retail business in Austria with excellent locations, great people and a loyal customer base. Our focus remains on serving our customers and giving them a great experience every time they come to refuel or shop, and this will not be impacted by BP’s intention to sell the retail business.”

BP said the decision is the latest example of its strategy to reshape and focus its downstream businesses, following the announcement last year that it is marketing its mobility and convenience business in the Netherlands. BP divested its retail businesses in Turkey in 2024 and in Switzerland in 2022.

In February, BP opened its first “new format” EV charging and convenience hub at Cromwell Road on the A4 in Hammersmith, London. Richard Bartlett, SVP for BP Pulse and mobility and convenience, Europe at BP, said: “The launch of our Cromwell Road EV convenience hub is a significant milestone in how we’re evolving to meet the needs of a new generation of EV drivers in the capital and beyond.” BP said this all-electric charging hub is part of the company’s broader strategy to evolve its mobility and convenience network across the UK. The company is also optimizing existing sites by adding BP Pulse EV charging to its fuel and retail offer.
