Buc-ee’s officially opened its doors in Mississippi this week in Pass Christian, which is about an hour north of North Orleans, according to local news outlet My San Antonio. The 74,000-square-foot Mississippi travel center marks the 52nd Buc-ee's store.
The new location “became one of the region’s largest private employers overnight,” reported Fox 8. “We have 200+ employees with livable wages,” said Buc-ee’s founder Arch “Beaver” Aplin. “I hope and I believe this will be meaningful economically.”
“It will do $50–$60 million a year in sales tax revenue,” said Bill Lavers with the Harrison County Development Commission.
The retailer is also working on expanding up north—the city of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, announced details about a Buc-ee’s planned for the area back in February.
Meanwhile, Thorntons announced the opening of its newest store in the Nashville, Tennessee area, according to a statement. “The store officially opened on Friday, June 6, and is located at 3475 Dickerson Pike. This marks the 21st location in the Nashville market area and the 223rd store in the Thorntons network,” the retailer said.
Sheetz opened a new store this month in Fremont, Ohio, according to an employee LinkedIn post.
“Our new Sheetz store #874 in Fremont, Ohio recently finished up construction and celebrated its grand opening today. This 11-acre site was previously home to a Quality Inn hotel and is situated just South of I-80 (The Ohio Turnpike) at the first traffic signal on SR-53. We appreciate the assistance and support from Sandusky Twp. and all public officials/consultants along the way. While this location features all of our normal amenities, we also provide 10 High-Flow diesel lanes and over 40 parking spaces for commercial drivers. Our store team members cannot wait to welcome you through the doors!” the LinkedIn post said.
