SEATTLE – Yesterday, Amazon launched Counter, a new network of staffed package pickup points at brick-and-mortar stores run by retail partners, including Rite Aid. More than 100 of the drugstore chain’s U.S. locations now offer Counter, and Rite Aid plans to roll out the Amazon service to 1,500 of its stores by year’s end.
Customers can pick up packages sent by same-day, one-day, two-day and standard shipping at no extra cost. Counter originally launched in the United Kingdom with NEXT and in Italy with Giunti Al Punto Librerie, Fermopoint and SisalPay stores. In Europe, the service has been positively received, driving strong customer engagement and additional foot traffic for partners.
“Amazon is always looking for innovative and convenient ways for customers to ship and receive their orders,” said Patrick Supanc, worldwide director of Amazon Hub, in a press release. “With Counter, we’ve leveraged our growing logistics network and invested in new, easy to use technology to give customers yet another delivery option rooted in flexibility and control. We are excited to partner with national businesses like Rite Aid, and local businesses in the future, to create an outstanding experience for our shared customers.”
Counter is part of the Amazon Hub family, which includes Locker, Locker+ and Apartment Locker.
As reported in NACS Daily, Dollar General and FedEx earlier this month announced a service offering parcel pickup and drop-off services at more than 1,500 Dollar General stores starting this summer, with plans to expand to more than 8,000 stores by the end of 2020.
