Owned by Amazon, Whole Foods releases upcoming food trends for 2019.

AUSTIN – Whole Foods released a list of the top 10 food trends we can expect in 2019, based on seasoned trend-spotters and consumer preference studies.

A few are specific to Whole Foods, such as the launch of a new line of products inspired by Pacific Rim fruits like guava tropical vinaigrette, pineapple passionfruit sparkling mineral water, mango pudding mix and passionfruit coconut frozen fruit bars.

Others, though, are widespread. For example, the probiotic craze will continue to grow. But probiotic products will become sustainable outside of the fridge, thanks to new strains that can last in granola, oatmeal and nutrition bars. Another influencer stems from diet trends like keto, paleo and grain-free. Whole Foods predicts there will be an emphasis on high-protein and low-carb snacks, drinks and chocolates.

Hemp is already popular, but in 2019, Whole Foods expects there to be a new interest in other benefits outside of hemp hearts, seeds and oils. This is part of the larger plant-based lifestyle shift that’s occurring. It’s why there’s expected to be more faux meat snacking going on next year too. Plant-based food innovation will continue to pop-up, including seaweed snacks, meat-free jerky and fish-free tuna.
