BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart is expanding its grocery delivery program across four states in new partnerships with Point Pickup, Skipcart, AxleHire and Roadie. Tech Crunch says that delivery is currently available in 800 stores and will grow into 800 more stores in 2019.
Walmart has partnered up with Postmates, Deliv, DoorDash and others in nearly 100 metro markets. With the newest addition of more third-party providers, the service will soon be available in more than 300 metro markets by the end of the year.
Customers who want their groceries delivered, simply go online, place their order and select a delivery window. Walmart shoppers assemble the order and pass it off to a delivery driver from one of the third parties.
Walmart has been focusing many efforts on this front. In November 2018, the company announced a partnership with Postmates and Ford to create a delivery service using self-driving cars. Earlier this month, a trial with self-driving delivery startup Udelv kicked off.
