Futuristic packaging allows for end-to-end traceability of products.

Apr 12, 2019

PULLY, Switzerland —Tetra Pak, a multinational food packaging company, has launched a connected packaging platform it says will transform milk and juice cartons into interactive information channels, full-scale data carriers and digital tools, Packaging Europe reports.

With code generation, digital printing and data management at its core, the connected packaging platform will have advantages for food producers, retailers and shoppers.

The packaging platform will offer end-to-end traceability, giving food producers the ability to track and trace the history or location of any product and monitor for market performance or potential problems. For retailers, it will offer improved supply chain visibility and real-time insights, enabling distributors to track stock movements, receive alerts when issues occur and monitor delivery performance.

Shoppers will be able to access vast amounts of information about the product, such as where it was made, the farm that the ingredients came from and where the package can be recycled.

Tetra Pak tested the digital packaging in China, India, Russia, Spain and the Dominican Republic before the formal launch.
