Tropical Depression Nicholas Hits Texas, Louisiana

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Hurricane Nicholas made landfall on the Texas coast as a category 1 hurricane early Tuesday, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. The storm is moving into Louisiana, where it is expected to stall. A state of emergency has been declared in Louisiana by Gov. John Bel Edwards.

Areas from Louisiana to Florida could receive five to 10 inches of rain, and some areas up to 20 inches, through Friday, reports CNN.

Flash flood watches have been issued from Texas to the Florida Panhandle, affecting 6.2 million people. About 250,000 homes and businesses are without power, reports The Weather Channel.

Efforts to clean up after Hurricane Ida in hard hit areas of Louisiana were hampered by heavy rainfall from Nicholas, forcing utility crews and contractors in some areas to stop working. Some areas in the state are still without power.
