ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Carol Moat has been working at a Kwik Trip in Oregon handing out samples Mondays through Fridays for the past seven years, and she has gained a loyal following, reports the Oregon Observer.
“Just wanted to tell everyone to go visit Carol at the middle Kwik Trip!! She's the beautiful soul that hands out samples!! She is the sweetest woman EVER!! ALWAYS MAKES MY DAY TO SEE HER!!” wrote an Oregon resident in a local Facebook group.
Moat is 82 years old and still working because she wants to stay as “independent as I can and be happy,” she told the Observer. She drives a manual car to work and says she loves to drive.
Along with dispensing samples to Kwik Trip customers, she offers encouragement, compliments or simply conversation. Moat advises people to be grateful for what they have.
“It’s not a ploy,” she said of starting up little conversations with customers. “I don’t do it to be nosy. I’m not a nosy person. It just comes natural to talk nice to everybody. You’ve got to have fun with it. You have to mean what you say—that’s also one of the keys.”
Her loyal customers banned together via Facebook to give her cards and gift money during a party they threw for her at a local barbeque restaurant. Moat said she used the money to buy a dress, and she is looking forward to just the right occasion to wear it.
Moat also volunteers at a local senior center, where she serves meals, plays the piano and decorates Christmas trees. There’s no stopping this happy woman.
