Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers this week declared that June 16 is “Kwik Trip Day,” reported local outlet WSAW.
The governor’s office announced the designation as Kwik Trip marks six decades since its first location opened on June 16, 1965. The company has since expanded across the Midwest, wrote CBS 58. The very first Kwik Trip was opened in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
“Since its establishment, Kwik Trip has grown to become one of the nation’s largest privately owned convenience retail chains, serving nearly 12 million guests per week across hundreds of locations throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states,” the Governor’s proclamation stated.
“We are truly honored to have Kwik Trip Day officially recognized by Governor Evers. This proclamation is a reflection of the incredible work our coworkers do every day to serve our guests and communities. We’re proud to call Wisconsin home, and even prouder to be part of so many lives across this great state,” Scott Zietlow, CEO and President of Kwik Trip said.
Also in recognition of its 60th anniversary, the retailer announced that it is bringing back its Chunka Lunka Cookies, which first debuted in 2003.
“We’re bringing back one of the most beloved Kwik Trip treats ever to celebrate our 60th anniversary... If you remember the first time you had one of these chocolate-loaded cookies, you know the deal. If you’ve never had one… trust us, it’s time,” Kwik Trip said.
Introduced on the original Hot Spot menu in 2003, Chunka Lunka Cookies are “soft, rich and packed with chocolate chunks that melt into a gooey masterpiece… And where did the idea of cookies on the Hot Spot start? The man, the myth, the legend: Don Zietlow,” Kwik Trip said.
