Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip is adding electric vehicle (EV) chargers at locations across the Midwest, reported WQOW News.
“At Kwik Trip, our goal is to take care of all our guests. We are pleased to offer the Kwik Charge program to our guests who drive EVs. They will not only be able to charge their vehicle but can take advantage of all our quality offerings inside our stores,” Scott Zietlow, CEO and president of Kwik Trip said in an article on Spectrum News 1.
The direct current fast charging stations will include connectors for both Combined Charging Standard (CCS) and the North American Charging Standard (NACS). The power will depend on the usage—if four vehicles are connected, the chargers will offer a minimum of 150kW of power but if there is a single vehicle connected, there can be up to 400kW of power, WQOW reported.
Kwik Trip is also launching a mobile app for guests to view charger availability, pricing, and where chargers are located along their route.
A Kwik Trip spokesperson told Spectrum News that Kwik Charge will be available 24/7 and will be up and running by the end of the year. Kwik Trip will have a Kwik Charge station in Ashland, Wisconsin, and one in West Salem, Wisconsin, completed by the end of October.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Kwik Trip received $23.2 million in federal funds through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to support Wisconsin's first efforts to build a statewide charging network. The funds came from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, aiming to build 500,000 electric vehicle chargers across the country. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report, the DOT grants will help fund charging stations at 24 Kwik Trip locations.
