Newsweek partnered with Statista to release its third annual ranking of
America’s Best Retailers—and five convenience stores made the list.
To compile its ranking of the 200 best places to make a purchase, Statista surveyed more than 7,000 shoppers from February to March for their opinions on retailers spanning 40 industry categories (such as apparel, electronics and supermarkets).
Participants were asked how likely they are to recommend a retailer and to give their thoughts on an outlet's prices, selection and atmosphere. Customer service and accessibility were also considered.
According to Newsweek, the companies recognized in the ranking stand above “for offering an outstanding shopping experience that resonates with customers.”
Newsweek ranked these five brands in the convenience category:
- Buc-ee’s, with a score of 94.37
- Wawa, with a score of 90.08
- QuikTrip, with a score of 89.6
- Sheetz, with a score of 88.9
- Love’s, with a score of 86.9
The top three to 10 retailers based on category size with the highest scores in each category were awarded as America's Best Retailers 2024. Newsweek noted that the final assessment and rankings were based on the likelihood of recommendation (50% of the final score) and five evaluation criteria (also 50% of the final score):
- Products: measures the quality, price, range and variety of products offered in-store.
- Customer Service: measures the friendliness, helpfulness and availability of employees in-store.
- Atmosphere: measures the general atmosphere, lighting/illumination, music and cleanliness of stores.
- Accessibility: measures the parking availability, store hours and convenience of store location.
- Shop Layout: measures the order that products are displayed, aisle size, product presentation, mannequins and store size.
Earlier this year, Newsweek recognized a number of c-stores for their loyalty programs.
