The expansive convenience retailer could be opening a travel center in Benton, Arkansas. A bid for a 29-acre lot close to the highway for about $2.25 million came from CSMS Management LLC, based in Pearland, Texas, which is where Buc-ee’s is based.

The City of Benton recently purchased about 100 acres of land from a private citizen with the goal of increasing outdoor parks and recreation spaces, according to Magnolia Reporter. As reported by the local news outlet in Arkansas, KARK.com, “Benton Director of Marketing and Special Events Matt Thibault said Friday morning the city had accepted a bid from the company that owns Buc-ee’s, but that he could not officially state the travel center is coming to the city until all of the official paperwork has been signed.”

The news outlet also notes that the anticipated tax revenue for the proposed project would be around $1.25 million per year in addition to $275,000 in property taxes.
While it is still unconfirmed that this will be the site of the first Buc-ee’s in Arkansas, the retailer has expanded its footprint recently with the addition of two locations in Virginia, Rockingham County and New Kent County.

New Kent County’s economic development department wrote on social media, “Buc-ee’s Travel Center is a family-focused travel center featuring a wide range of freshly prepared foods, including home-crafted BBQ, custom-made sandwiches, fresh salads and fruits, baked goods and sweets as well as a unique collection of gifts, housewares, clothing and weekend getaway gear. Buc-ee’s is open 24/7 and provides our guests with the cleanest restrooms and friendliest staff to be found anywhere. Buc-ee’s is not a truck stop; 18-wheelers are not allowed on the property. Buc-ee’s is a one-of-a-kind destination. Buc-ee’s will employ (full time with benefits) over 175 residents earning an average minimum wage of $16-18 per hour.”
