SEOUL—Sometimes, the shortest distances can be covered more quickly on foot. That’s why convenience-store chain CU and MG Playing, a delivery service, have joined together to offer a new, short-distance delivery service which has walking delivery personnel to bring orders to their destinations, Korea Bizwire reports.

MG Playing taps delivery personnel close to the destination (within six-tenths of a mile) once someone orders via the Yogiyo delivery app. If no on-foot delivery staffer is available, the order is automatically routed to a motorbike delivery driver.

This system allows for more efficient groupings of deliveries, which means customers should receive their orders faster than if delivery solely relied on motorbike personnel, according to CU. The chain will start the service at 1,000 stores in Seoul by the end of October, with a national launch in November.

In August, GS25 introduced its own short-distance, on-foot delivery service called Neighborhood Delivery, Korea Bizwire reports. GS25’s service doesn’t use professional delivery companies for the orders, but rather taps a network of people willing to make deliveries within certain radiuses. GS25 limits the weight of each delivery to about 11 pounds.
