New Hampshire to Raise Smoking Age to 19
The change will impact all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, and will take effect January 1.

CONCORD, N.H.—New Hampshire will have a new tobacco purchasing age come January 1, 2020, NHPR/Associated Press reports. The Granite State has raised the legal purchase age for all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, to 19.
A bill to bump the tobacco buying age from 18 to 21 fizzled in the Senate, but supporters squeezed in similar language into the state budget. However, this summer, Gov. Chris Sununu refused to sign the budget.
In a compromise reached this fall, the governor approved a budget with a provision that increased the tobacco purchase age to 19. Several localities in the state, such as Newmarket, Dover and Keene, already have the tobacco buying age set at 21.
