ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Anheuser-Busch, one of the world’s largest beer producers, recently announced it expects to achieve its 100% renewable purchased electricity goal by 2021, according to Energy Manager Today.
Through a power purchase agreement between Anheuser-Busch and Recurrent Energy, a solar developer, the beer maker will purchase renewable energy credits from energy delivered to the grid by a new solar facility being constructed in Pecos County, Texas.
When the a 2,000-acre solar energy facility is completed, it is expected to generate 650 gigawatt hours of energy annually. That’s enough power to brew 20 billion 12-ounce servings of beer a year. When the company reaches that point, Anheuser-Busch’s domestic beers will be brewed with 100% renewable electricity from solar and wind power.
In 2018, Budweiser became the nation’s first major beer brand to be brewed with 100% renewable electricity from wind power.
