ALEXANDRIA, Va.—On this week’s episode of Convenience Matters, “A Conversation with EG Group’s Ilyas Munshi,” NACS hosts Jeff Lenard, vice president of strategic industry initiatives, and Carolyn Schnare, director of strategic initiatives, discuss with Ilyas Munshi, group commercial director for EG Group, on how convenience stores meet the needs of customers across the globe.
“For EG Group, what we are passionate about is delivering a world-class convenience retail or convenience shop with a fresh food offer,” Munchi said. “No matter what market you look at, people value their time, and no matter what business you’re in, you’ve always got to be focused on the consumer.”
Munchi said that the chain has focused on the consumer to understand what they want. “What people want is to access locations, which satisfies multiple missions. What we’ve been able to do in our gas stations and convenience stores is to create a wow factor for the consumer because previously or historically, they’ve not had access to that.”
For the EG Group, the key is to ensure their stores fill the multiple mission need of consumers. “People are wanting [a place]… where can [they] can go [to] pick up breakfast, snacks, newspaper, fill up [their] car, and top-up shop for the evening. That’s where the ‘C’ in convenience comes into play. It’s all about creating a better range of products and service at our locations.”
