WASHINGTON, D.C. – This Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, more than 80% of Americans say they like to share chocolate and candy with their friends and loved ones, according to survey results reported by The National Confectioners Association.
In addition, 92% of survey respondents agree that chocolate and candy are the perfect gift to give during Valentine’s month.
“We know that most Americans enjoy chocolate and candy two or three times per week, including at special candy moments like Valentine’s Day,” said John Downs, president and CEO of the National Confectioners Association. “The gift-giving tradition spans generations and is a highlight of the holiday. But we know that people are also interested in understanding how they can make informed choices about the treats they enjoy.”
For consumers trying to manage their sugar intake, the association has a website that provides information on mindful eating. Dubbed Valentine’s Day Central, the website offers details about candy treats, including history, fun facts and tips on proper storage.
The National Confectioners Association is a trade organization that advances, protects and promotes chocolate, candy, gum and mints.
