ZURICH – By the end of next year, Scandit wants consumers to use their smartphones to pinpoint items that meet specific dietary needs. USA Today says that Scandit, a Swiss technology company, expects U.S. grocery stores to roll out the new feature within the next six to nine months.
Whether lactose intolerant, vegan, counting calories or need gluten-free food, you can use the app to scan shelves and find what you need. "Standing in front of shelves filled with hundreds of items can be an intimidating experience,'' says Scandit CEO Samuel Mueller. "Instead of picking the best item, many shoppers just give up and pick the most familiar one. (Augmented reality) filtering enables shoppers to quickly see beyond the shelves and into the products themselves so they can find exactly what they want in the most efficient way."
This kind of technology is transforming how we shop for groceries and is tuning into today’s health and food trends. Shoppers seem to be demanding as much information as possible from the products they buy.
