WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, July 23 at 9:45 am and continuing into Wednesday, July 24 at 1:30 pm, the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy Power will hold a hearing on the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). 

The hearing, “Overview of the Renewable Fuel Standard: Stakeholder Perspectives,” will examine current challenges with RFS implementation, the impact of the RFS on fuel producers, marketers and consumers, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s administration of the RFS. The hearing will also explore current and future impacts of the RFS on energy markets, the agricultural sector and potential improvements to the RFS. Joe Petrowski, CEO of The Cumberland Gulf Group, is providing testimony on behalf of NACS and SIGMA at the hearing. 

The hearing follows a June 26 subcommittee hearing that reviewed government implementation of the RFS and also comes on the heels of the committee’s release of a series of bipartisan white papers examining a range of emerging concerns with the current statute. Each of the five papers solicited input from interested parties and the committee has received an outpouring of responses. 

Witnesses from nearly every stakeholder affected by the RFS, including fuel users, developers and representatives from the agricultural and environmental communities, will offer their feedback on the future of the RFS mandate.
