BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – Will consumers see $3.39 a gallon at the pump? Perhaps, according to GasBuddy, but retail fuel prices could peak at $3.83 a gallon this spring.
GasBuddy says that U.S. drivers should see “more temperate” gasoline prices than in the last three years, but cautions that there is potential for “dramatic price spikes and equally dramatic price plunges,” writes MarketWatch. GasBuddy analysts forecast that the average price will fall by about 10 cents a gallon in 2014 to below $3.40 for the first time since 2010.
Spring spikes in gas prices are likely, notes GasBuddy, adding that the likelihood of a late first quarter 2014 “rally in prices from winter lows remains quite high.”
Meanwhile, AAA says that average retail gasoline prices for 2014 are likely to hover around $3.40 and $3.50 nationwide, writes MarketWatch.
