PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland's first heath-oriented convenience store, Green Zebra, is teaming with San Francisco-based Instacart to offer home delivery around the Portland, Oregon, area.
Green Zebra founder Lisa Sedlar, former CEO of New Seasons Market, launched Green Zebra in early 2013 with a mission to increase access to healthy food by operating small format stores in urban neighborhoods. According to a report in the Portland Business Journal, Sedlar hopes to finalize funding imminently in order to open a second Green Zebra location, with a goal of opening 20 locations by 2020.
In the interim, partnering with Instacart is a way for the c-store newcomer to gain a foothold in Portland’s already-saturated healthy foods market. "Portland is on the leading-edge of the trend to shop and eat local products. By partnering with Green Zebra Grocery — a store that gives first preference to local growers and producers — we are making it even easier for the Portland community to connect with the local products they know and love," Stephen Klein, Instacart's operations manager, told Portland Business Journal.
