WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. and CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Convenience retailers are getting into the holiday spirit with charitable events and special promotions in the communities they serve.
Taking their commitment to the community and their ability to feed people a step further, QuickChek team members are aiding thousands of families in need by volunteering at local community food banks ahead of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
Fifty-six volunteers from the company’s headquarters in Whitehouse Station, N.J., and various QuickChek stores recently bagged 1,800 pounds of pasta in a single day — enough to feed 6,200 families — at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, and 25 company volunteers also sorted and boxed a variety of food donations at the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley in Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, New York.
QuickChek is also a new campaign partner of Check-Out Hunger, an annual fundraiser by the Community Food Bank of New Jersey that takes place every fall at most major supermarkets and convenience stores throughout New Jersey. Shoppers at each of QuickChek’s 139 stores can help feed hungry families in their communities by donating $1, $3 or $5 coupons at check-out counters through mid-December, providing food, help and hope to those in need.
“Being in the food business, partnering with the community food banks where we have stores was a natural fit when we were looking for new ways to get further involved with our local communities,” said QuickChek CEO Dean Durling, whose family-owned and -operated company has been named one of the most generous in the state by New Jersey Monthly magazine.
In Texas, Stripes Stores and Laredo Taco Company will be celebrating Thanksgiving and Black Friday with a coupon for a free Breakfast Original Taco from the Laredo Taco Company. Customers interested in the promotional offer must print the coupon from the Prize Cooler Tab located on the Stripes Stores Facebook page (www.facebook.com/stripesstores). The coupon will be available beginning at midnight on Thanksgiving and will be valid during breakfast hours through Black Friday.
