TWIN FALLS, Idaho – Chobani, the company that brought Greek yogurt to the U.S. market nearly 10 years ago, now controls nearly 38% of the U.S. Greek yogurt category—holding greater market share than competitors Yoplait or Dannon. One way Chobani plans to make Greek yogurt even more mainstream? Sell it as a condiment.

The company’s Greek yogurt has been repackaged in a 14-ounce squeeze bottle to use as a condiment. Called Chobani Savor, the whole-milk and low-fat plain varieties will be on store shelves this month.

Kai Sacher, Chobani's senior vice president of global research and development, told the Twin Falls Times-News that the product has fewer calories, less fat and three times as much protein as sour cream and can be used on potatoes, tacos, nachos, salads and other food items.

To make the new squeezable packaging possible, the company had to purchase new machinery. The packaging is softer than typical squeezable condiment containers such as ketchup and mayonnaise. “This packaging helps the consumer to learn Greek yogurt is a condiment,” Sacher said.
