PHILADELPHIA – Snap Kitchen is making a run for Pennsylvania’s healthy-eating market.

Austin, Texas-based Snap Kitchen is planning to open at least five stores in the Philadelphia region by the end of the year, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal. Founded in 2010, the company’s co-founder, Martin Berson, describes the concept as a combination of a high-end grocery store, restaurant, and convenience and retail store.

Snap Kitchen sells pre-packaged meals that cater to dietary preferences such as vegan, gluten-free, paleo and vegetarian. Products include ready-to-go prepared foods, desserts, cold-pressed juices and cold-brewed coffee. Pre-orders are also available.

"Where we deviate is portion control, higher-quality ingredients across the board, and clear and transparent nutritionals," Berson said. "This is all we do. We're able to focus and be crystal clear on our mission and goal and go out and get it."

Stores average 1,000 to 1,500 square feet, and up to 150 jobs are generated per market, Berson told the news source, noting that Philadelphia is an ideal location due to the city's demographic that is passionate about food, wants an "ultra-convenient" outlet for shopping and focuses on wellness.

Snap Kitchen ventured outside of the Texas market this year with the opening of four locations in Chicago, bringing its store count to 30 locations, according to the news source. Pennsylvania becomes the third state on the company’s expansion list.
