NACS Reports Reveal Consumer Insights

Three NACS reports cite findings on how gas customers react to prices at the pump and the behaviors of frequent shoppers at convenience stores.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NACS recently rolled out three reports that help explain current market conditions and how consumers respond to not only prices at the pump, but also their overall experience at their local convenience store.

The first report, “What Consumers Think About Gas Prices,” examines how gas prices affect overall consumer spending and consumer sentiment about the economy. By taking a deep dive into economic sentiment, the report reveals consumer perceptions related to gas prices and the economy overall. The report also features conveniences that are of interest to consumers, such as automated checkout technologies, food trucks, mobile ordering and meal kits.

The second report, “How Consumers React to Gas Prices,” highlights customer preferences compared to previous years, which can help assess how consumers may react if oil prices continue to climb. The report’s charts and graphics highlight customer preferences compared to previous years, which can help assess how consumers may react if oil prices continue to climb.

And finally, the third report,  “Three Insights on Frequent Convenience Store Customers,” suggests that frequent customers, defined as 28% of fuel purchasers who shop “daily” or “multiple times per week” at a convenience store, are more likely to hold favorable opinions of their local store, as well as respond positively to new products and foodservice offers.
