SEATTLE – To help celebrate National Coffee Day, Redfin has identified the top 10 cities for coffee drinkers.

To locate these coffee capitals, Redfin looked at Walk Score data in 100 cities across the United States and found the top 10 with the most coffee shops per capita. For each city, Redfin also highlighted the zip code with the most coffee shops per person.

The top 10 most caffeinated cities are:

  1. San Francisco, CA
  2. Seattle, WA
  3. Portland, OR
  4. Oakland, CA
  5. Pittsburgh, PA
  6. Paradise, NV
  7. Salt Lake City, UT
  8. New Orleans, LA
  9. Minneapolis, MN
  10. Tacoma, WA

Convenience stores are getting into the action to help celebrate today’s hot beverage festivities. According to PennLive.com:

  • Wawa is giving away free coffee;
  • Pilot Flying J Travel Centers are offering one free small cup of Pilot Coffee;
  • Medium coffees at Dunkin’ Donuts are priced at 66 cents all day in honor of the company’s 66th anniversary; and
  • Cumberland Farms is offering its customers a free hot or iced coffee in any size via a mobile text coupon.

Also, Sheetz announced the launch of its Cold Brew coffee offerings, available in all stores beginning today. The launch marks a major advancement in the convenience store industry’s coffee portfolio. Sheetz’s Cold Brew starts with fresh coffee ground in-house and later infused in cold water for 10 hours to ensure the balanced blend of sweet and bitter. The patient process results in a naturally smooth and sweet flavor with less acidity.

“This product is the real deal and sure to disrupt the convenience category’s coffee offerings as we know [them], just like Sheetz,” says Ryan Sheetz, director of brand strategy for the store. “With millennials drinking more specialty coffee than any other generation out there, we hope to fill more of their cups and also introduce other coffee drinkers to cold brew.”

According to NACS State of the Industry data, coffee makes up more than 75% of hot dispensed sales in U.S. convenience stores, with more than 60% of Americans drinking coffee and 34% indulging in a gourmet cup of Joe every day.
