ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Jolt Cola will be hitting the shelves at Dollar General stores this month after a 12-year hiatus, the New York Post reports. Launched in 1985 as America’s first carbonated energy drink, Jolt Cola’s “all the sugar and twice the caffeine” “dominated the hearts and minds of gamers, hackers, journalists, and other night owls across the country,” the company website boasts.

Jolt Cola has 160 milligrams of caffeine per 16-ounce bottle and 52 grams of sugar. The iconic can with its thunderbolt appeared onscreen in “Gremlins 2,” “Hackers,” and “Jurassic Park” movies.

The Jolt company pointed to “some bad business decisions” made in 2005 that introduced the now defunct battery can and “forced the company to stop production and eventually dismantle the Jolt Cola empire,” stated a press release.

With the relaunched, the brand anticipates “connecting Jolt to a whole new generation of energy drink consumers,” said Kathryn Lyons, Jolt Cola spokeswoman. For now, only single, 16-ounce cans will be available for purchase at $1 each exclusively at Dollar Generals across the country.
