What Is It
Today’s dynamic labor market positions convenience store retailers against quick service restaurants and other retail channels in the race to attract, hire and retain the best talent. To gain a competitive edge, Human Resource (HR) professionals must keep up with the rapid pace of change by developing and implementing compensation strategies that best enable them to succeed. At the foundation of success is a data-driven strategy that informs decision making and execution.
Considered an essential guide for HR professionals for more than 40 years, the NACS State of the Industry Compensation Report® is the industry’s premier compensation benchmarking report for the convenience channel. The digital report of 2020 data provides the latest data, trends and best practices on compensation, benefits, recruitment and turnover as reported by 85 retail companies, representing more than 15,000 stores of all sizes and over 262,000 employees.

Good Jobs Calculator
(a partnership between the Good Jobs Institute and NACS)
Using this free industry tool, convenience retailers plug in their own data and customized assumptions about the amount of improvement or uplift achievable, and executives can run scenarios on the bottom-line impact of a good jobs system. In addition to giving an overall “size-of-prize” range, quantifying these benefits can help executives understand what would have to be true—specific improvements in metrics like turnover, shrink, and basket size—to justify a given wage investment in creating a good jobs system.
