LONDON – Greenergy, a U.K. supplier of vehicle fuel, is rolling out Breakaway, a new, hockey-themed fuel and convenience offer for independent retailers in Canada.

Drawing on Canadians’ love of ice hockey, Breakaway combines a distinctive hockey-themed gas station design with standard fuel products and a broad convenience offer.

The offer comes with a developed community relations program, Breakaway to Play, which helps reduce the financial barriers that prevent some families from getting involved in the sport of hockey.

The complete program includes marketing expertise, group buying power, merchandising rebates, established suppliers and a convenience offering from Gateway Newstands, a North American small-format convenience retailer.

“Our research shows Canadian fuel retailers and consumers want more choice and more competition,” said Mike Healey, Greenergy Fuels CEO for Canada. “Breakaway is designed to drive site traffic and growth, and it allows dealers to benefit from Greenergy’s low cost and reliable fuel supply.”

The first Breakaway site is planned for fall 2018 in Leamington, Ontario, at the location of Johnny’s Gas Bar. It will feature Breakaway’s distinctive hockey-themed forecourt, plus a car wash and 24-hour cardlock.
