ALEXANDRIA, Va. – One of the greatest concerns dominating retailers who are considering equipment needs is how to prepare for an uncertain future, reduce maintenance costs and protect the environment. During the NACS Show educational session "Protecting Your Fuel Business Investment" on Thursday, October 19, a retailer, a tank manufacturer and a representative from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will explore the latest research, and what this might mean for your business and how to best position yourself.

With so many competing scenarios being put forth regarding where transportation fuel is evolving, someone is bound to be wrong—but it doesn’t have to be you. This session will tell you what key retailers are doing to ensure they are prepared no matter how the future evolves.

At the same time, there are issues confronting the industry with today’s liquid fuels. Several years ago, rumors circulated that retailers had corrosion on their tank systems different from what had been seen in the past on submersible turbine pumps in UST systems storing ethanol blends, and more recently even diesel. The EPA, retailers, OEMs and service providers are working together to try to understand why this corrosion was happening, whether the corrosion might lead to equipment functionality problems or even leaks, and what the industry might be able to do to stop it.

This session will highlight some of the tank design/use trends that retailers are considering or already implementing with regard to future product needs, regulatory changes and growing corrosion concerns. The importance of proper tank and piping installation for long-term equipment performance and resources for installation training information will also be discussed.

“Protecting Your Fuel Business Investment” will feature Michael Lorenz, executive vice president of Petroleum Supply; Tom Tietjen, vice president of the Xerxes Corp.; and Carolyn Hoskinson, EPA UST director. Norman Turiano, formerly of Wawa and principal at Turiano Strategic Consulting, will moderate the interactive panel discussion “fueled” by attendee questions.

Education sessions like “Protecting Your Fuel Business Investment” are one of the top reasons the convenience store industry attends the NACS Show every year. The NACS Show will take place October 17 -20 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Visit nacsshow.com to see the entire line-up of speakers and to register.
