CARY, N.C. – There really is a holiday for everything and next up is none other than National Hot Dog Day on July 23. The hot dog has long been a part of iconic American celebrations and pastimes, including Independence Day and summer baseball games.

Kangaroo Express, operated by The Pantry Inc. announced last week that it will celebrate by offering a free hot dog to any customer with a military I.D. that stops by its nearly 1,200 grill-ready Kangaroo Express convenience stores between 6 am and 11:59 pm tomorrow. In addition, guests who present the Kangaroo Express mobile app on their phone will receive a coupon voucher for a free hot dog. Guests can also stop by any participating Kangaroo Express on Wednesday, July 23 from 4pm to 8 pm to enjoy 50-cent Ball Park hot dogs.

While enjoying their discounted dogs, customers can pay it forward by donating to the Salute Our Troops® campaign. “With more than one-third of our employees having a direct connection to the military, we are proud to support the military community all year long and are continually inspired by the generosity of our guests,” said Gordon Schmidt, senior vice president of operations, Kangaroo Express, in a press release.

Donations from the campaign will support the American Red Cross Service to Armed Forces, providing emergency communications, comfort and assistance to military, veterans and their families; Fisher House Foundation, donating “comfort homes” at major military and VA medical centers that enable military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization; the United States Veterans Corps, a corps of military veterans, spouses, dependents and patriotic citizens performing hands on community service with a mission and deployment attitude, as well as six state-based military support organizations. Since its commencement in 2011, the Salute Our Troops campaign has raised $8.4 million dollars, breaking fundraising records for many of its beneficiary organizations.
