ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The NACS reFresh Initiative has been recognized by ASAE’s Power of A Awards with a Silver award. ASAE (the Center for Association Leadership) created the Power of A Awards to showcase how associations leverage their unique resources to solve problems, advance industry and professional performance, kickstart innovation and improve world conditions.
The Power of A Awards recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions associations make to society by enriching lives, creating a competitive workforce, preparing society for the future, driving innovation and making a better world.
“We developed the reFresh initiative to both increase strengths around what retailers already do that is positive and to shine light on other programs that are not as well-known,” said Jeff Lenard, NACS vice president of strategic industry initiatives. “By focusing on community engagement and increasing the sale of healthy options, NACS has cultivated meaningful relationships with key opinion-leaders in the media, government and other areas who can help us better the industry and its image. And that’s the best outcome of them all.”
The NACS reFresh initiative provides resources to retailers and suppliers to enable them to enhance their operations and to create partnerships with like-minded community- and nutrition-focused groups to create positive action in support of small-format improvement. The initiative has three elements:
- Creating tools that help retailers enhance their operations related to healthy options and community outreach, in particular, to help address NIMBY (not in my backyard) issues.
- Developing pilot tests to showcase new ideas and sharing facts and data to both encourage retailer participation and challenge an outdated reputation, educate the public and demonstrate how the industry is changing for the better.
- Forming partnerships with credible nutrition and community-focused groups to enhance the industry and the communities it serves.
